Diego Gambacciani
Diego Gambacciani is a Zurich-based artist working with linocut, fineliner drawing, pyrography, hand printing and tattooing. Strong black lines, intricate hatching and a love for small details connect much of his work.
Inspiration often comes from what he sees around him - people, architecture, street scenes and everyday objects. Zurich and its urban surroundings appear throughout his work, while Mexican art and culture are another important influence, shaped by family ties and several journeys to Mexico.
For Gambacciani, making art is about noticing something that interests him and turning it into something of his own. He rarely plans every detail before he starts. Instead, ideas continue to develop while he works: elements change, new details appear and ordinary subjects can become exaggerated or unexpected.
He works in different techniques simply because he enjoys making things in different ways. Carving a linocut, drawing on canvas, burning into wood, printing by hand or tattooing each brings a different process -but the pleasure of creating something by hand remains at the centre of it.
